2045 Seattle in the Press

In the last three days, we’ve managed to gain some attention in the print media and it’s worth pointing it out and being happy about it.

On Friday, the Seattle P-I printed a letter from 2045 to the editor arguing for the monorail.

On Saturday, the Seattle Times mentioned us in their story about the Mayor’s action.

A pro-monorail base persists, including a new group of young adults called 2045 Seattle.

And on Sunday, the Seattle P-I quoted my speech at the Saturday board meeting.

“Where is the mayor?” asked monorail backer Christian Gloddy in comments to the board. “Why isn’t he at this table right now?”

The activists underscored Stockmeyer’s remarks that the monorail line, to cost about $150 milliion per mile, is far cheaper than the proposed 3.3-mile Sound Transit light rail line from downtown to the University District at about $450 million per mile.

Monorail backers also complained about a perceived double standard by which city officials approve large sums for a central library, the South Lake Union trolley and Seattle Aquarium expansion without votes and yet demand a vote on a voter-backed monorail.

And we even got Grant Cogswell’s endorsement in the Belltown Messenger

Speaking of my former political incarnation, the torch has been passed to 29-year-old ass-kicker Christian Gloddy, who, tired of all the stupid, selfish, hysterical monorail opponents, started an organization called Seattle 2045 (for people who will still be alive then) to fight for our monorail (again). The website is www.seattle2045.org; go there for buttons, action alerts, and “Seattle Monorail has a posse” stickers.

We also have letters printed in the Ballard News-Tribune and Eat the State! on top of our past television stories on Q13 Fox and Komo News 4.

This is the result of our hard work: the emails we’ve sent, the people we’ve talked to, the buttons we’ve worn and, most importantly, the message we carry. We can be seriously happy about all we’ve done in so short a time.
