Monorail Race on Sunday

October 29th, 2005

Anyone have a starter pistol?

On Sunday at 3:30 pm, we will be having a race between the existing 1962 monorail, a car, a bike and a dog. It’ll be 2045’s first short video. We’re going to have our own cameras there filming it and then we’ll cut together a video of the race for release on the internet.

Here are the contestants.

Car: Mike
Monorail: Molly
Biker: Chase
Dog: Wesley

If you’d like to come in and pitch in with the effort, let us know. We need a couple of refs to make sure there’s no cheating as well as people with cameras to capture footage of the race. We’ll be gathering at 3:30 pm in the food court area of the Center House in Seattle Center. The whole thing should only take about an hour and then we’ll leave it to Stephen to cut together the official footage.

And please people, no wagering. This is for entertainment purposes only.

March Saturday at 11 am for the Monorail!

October 28th, 2005

Saturday, starting at 11 am, we will be joining an array of monorail supporters to walk the monorail route and show our support.

There are two places to start. Pick the one closest to you.

  • Interbay: Parking lot immediately north of Q Cafe corner of Dravus and southbound exit ramp off 15th Ave. NW.
  • West Seattle: Southwest corner of Alaska and California at Alaska Junction

Both groups will march to and meet at the “sinking ship” parking lot at James and Yesler in Pioneer Square.

Bring signs, banners and anything else you can think of to show your support. (Some bottled water isn’t a bad idea either) 2045 will be bringing our fancy new brochures for anyone who wants them.

Here are some of the groups that will be there:

  • The 36th District Democrats
  • The 34th District Democrats
  • Kevin Fullerton, Sierra Club
  • Scot Brannon, Sierra Club
  • Cleve Stockmeyer, SMP Board member
  • Peter Sherwin, Transit Over Roads
  • Christian Gloddy, 2045 Seattle
  • Cary Moon, People’s Waterfront Coalition
  • Michael Taylor-Judd, Friends of the Monorail

Here’s hoping the weather treats us well.

Brochures Are Now Available!

Our brochures have just come fresh off the press this morning. These are a great tool to help people understand what they are voting for.

They have been reviewed by various pro-monorail people across the city, so they’re good for any person or group to use, not just 2045ers.

Give us a call at 206-866-0131 or email us at sayhello@2045seattle.org to arrange to get your hands on some.

We have 10,000 in our first run, so let’s get them out there.

2045 Seattle Hits the Pages of The Stranger

October 27th, 2005

In the past few months, we’ve managed to get stories on KOMO and Q13, quotes in the major papers and even a little radio action over at KUOW, but nothing makes our young Seattle hearts beat faster than making the pages of The Stranger.

Young Activists Stage Long-Shot Battle to Save The Monorail

Mind you, it’s not all pretty. We’re in an uphill battle and most of us are new to politics and protest, so the article includes our inexperience and missteps along with our proud accomplishments. Quite frankly, we’d rather be napping, but we know it’s worth the fight.

We’ve also revamped a lot of our site. Be sure to check out our new information including The Green Line Map, A New Financing Plan We Can Afford, New Experienced Leadership, 28 Reasons to Vote Yes and our Pro-Monorail Voting Guide.

We also have a revamped How Can I Help? section with all your options laid out nicely.

Be sure to check out Josh Feit’s column too wherein he kindly asks the Mayor if it’s okay to call him Mayor Gridlock.
